A wonderful village school in the heart of rural Leicestershire

Wymondham C of E Primary School is situated in the glorious village of Wymondham, in the heart of rural Leicestershire.

We are surrounded by fields and stunning views of the English countryside. We are a few miles from the market towns of Melton Mowbray and Oakham and are right next-door to Wymondham Windmill and an independent nursery for 2-4 year olds.

We enjoy close links with St Peter’s Church and the local community, as well as nearby local schools.

At our school, we aim to create a happy family environment underpinned by strong Christian and British values. The school is held in high regard by the local community. Parents and carers speak highly of the outstanding care, guidance and support that make their children feel extremely safe and valued.

Pupils attend regularly, behave impeccably and appreciate the extra help and nurture they receive in our small school.

On 1st June 2014, we became an academy within the Diocese of Leicester Academies Trust (DLAT) in order to secure the future of our unique and lovely school in order to serve our community for many years to come. We are proud of our partnership and work very closely with all the schools, directors and senior leaders in the Trust.

In January 2015, St Peter’s CE Primary School, Wymondham and Croxton Kerrial CE Primary School entered into an executive partnership, with one Head teacher and two governing bodies; this enhanced school improvement and offered greater opportunities for staff, pupils and governors.

Following the retirement of the Executive Head teacher in April 2019, our school extended its partnership work to create the first four-school cluster of primary schools under one Head teacher in DLAT and within Leicestershire; this is remarkable recognition for all we are achieving and aspire to do. We are now forming a new links with Redmile CE Primary School and Waltham-on-the-Wolds CE Primary and are excited by all the new opportunities open to us.

As a Church School, we enjoy close links with St Peter’s church and Reverend David, who is a special part of our school family; he visits us several times a week and is a dedicated school governor. We teach our children to live their lives with fundamental Christian and British values to help them make wise choices. We encourage our children to strive for academic excellence whilst recognising the importance of building character to equip them for living in a modern world. We aim to broaden their education and nurture a thirst for learning and living through providing new and exciting experiences to embrace and develop concepts of faith and spirituality, of hope and charity, of love and respect to enable them to make sensible choices throughout their lives. We aim to provide a happy, caring, industrious school that promotes high standards of personal achievement, partnership and team work. Our goal is to be the best that we can be whilst having fun on the way.

Our latest Ofsted report states that ‘Pupils enjoy school and their behaviour is excellent. They have exceptionally positive attitudes to learning’.

At St Peter’s, Wymondham, our philosophy, ethos and values are centred around the child. Our team of dedicated teachers and learning support staff provide a caring environment full of challenging, inspiring and exciting learning opportunities. We recognise every child as an individual and we strive to meet their learning needs to enable each and every one to reach his or her full potential.

The school has three large, well-equipped classrooms together with a school hall, library, staff room, office accommodation and very attractive school grounds. We have an outdoor learning area for the Foundation children which enables free-flow activities, a large playground, an expansive sports field, an outdoor adventure play area and a beautiful Worship Garden. As well as receiving high quality class teaching, the children are taught weekly by sports specialists and attend swimming lessons in Melton Mowbray every year.

Due to us being an exceptionally small primary school, we currently have two classes: Reception, Year 1 and 2 combined and Years 3-6 combined. We have 3 teachers and a wealth of talented support staff who work with all children. Our children attain well and make excellent progress; they develop an exceptionally high level of mutual respect and social skills through working closely with one another

If you are a prospective parent looking for an admission place for your child, please contact us as we will be pleased to meet you and show you around. Our children and families are proud of their school and will also make you very welcome.

We have recently celebrated our 50th year and hope to enjoy further successful years for the next 50 years and beyond
