School Meals
Wymondham CE Primary School works with Leicestershire School Food Support to provide good value, nutritionally based school meals.
Our school meals are freshly prepared daily at St Francis School and brought to Wymondham by courier in special insulated containers. Our staff are fully trained in handling and serving food safely and at the correct temperatures.
We actively encourage good quality nutrition and children have a variety of choices of vegetables, salad and fruit each day.
- Dinners cost £2.30 per day (£12.00 a week) for Key Stage 2 children.
- Parents may also apply for free school meals for their child – please contact the school office for further details.
- Dinners are free for all children in Reception and Key Stage 1 (as of September 2014).
Dinner money needs to be paid every Monday. Payments should be made via ParentPay by logging in to your account online.
We also encourage healthy choices for children bringing packed lunches from home. Packed lunches need to include:
- Something substantial (such as a sandwich, a wrap or some pasta).
- Some vegetables or fresh fruit.
- A yogurt or healthy dessert.
- A drink (water or fruit juice).
- We advise against sending sweets and fizzy drink.
Fresh, cold water is always available to all children.
We currently have no children with a nut allergy, however when we do, we operate a nut-free school. Please advise the class teacher if your child has any specific dietary need and we will work together to support them.
School dinners are served daily in the school hall where children eat together to enjoy both school meals and packed lunches.
Please contact the school for more advice or information if required.
Chef Development Manager for Leicestershire Food Support Services, Brian Gardiner, states in their recent newsletter: “Myself and the team have worked closely with our dieticians Paula and Jessica to reduce the sugar and fat content of many of our dishes so that you will still be able to enjoy our dishes without this effecting the taste and quality of our end product; we do this to meet the Government Standards for food that is served in Primary Schools across the UK.
We are very proud to say that we hold the Gold Food For Life award. Up to 30% of green house gas emissions globally are linked to agriculture and food production, and the environmental impact of the food we eat is one of the key changes we can make to tackle the issue of climate change. Reductions in red and processed meat is something we have worked hard on in this menu. We work closely with all our suppliers to ensure we supply you with the best quality ingredient’s, locally sourced where ever possible. All the meat we use on our menu is Red Tractor, Farm Assured and wherever possible we use Organic Meat. For our customers that are non-meat eaters then please be assured that we only use the finest tried and tested ingredients in your recipes too.”
